Perambalur: Perambalur district crime branch has arrested three men for running a fake trust that cheated the public of Rs29.75 lakh under the guise of social welfare schemes. The accused ran the ‘vigilance awareness organizations trust,' which targeted vulnerable groups with false promises of financial aid and employment.
According to the Police, R Sathya, 42, of Perambalur, filed a complaint in this regard, saying the fake trust cheated the people by offering training in candle and incense making, providing employment, arranging interest-free bank loans for widows, widowers and disabled people, and providing financial assistance.

District crime branch inspector Selvakumari arrested three suspects, K Chellam, 55, and T Devakumar, 55, both from Lalgudi in Trichy, and K Parthasarathy, 35, of Veppanthattai taluk in Perambalur district. All three were produced before a magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody. Crime branch police are investigating others involved in the fraud. Police have advised the public to ensure the legal registration and credibility of any trust or private company before investing in it.
