FRAT submits charter seeking comprehensive development of state capital
Thiruvananthapuram: Fraternity of Residents' Associations Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT), an umbrella body representing hundreds of residents' associations in the state capital district, has submitted a memorandum seeking comprehensive and sustainable development of Thiruvananthapuram.The memorandum, addressed to the chief minister-designate V D Satheesan, KPCC president Sunny Joseph, highlighted setting up of a high court bench with filing power, Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road development, AIIMS, separate ministerial portfolio for capital city development and highlighted the need for integrated development and beautification of the state capital while ensuring better civic amenities and urban infrastructure. The organisation urged the govt to take urgent steps to resolve persistent issues affecting residents, including traffic congestion, waterlogging, waste management, drinking water shortages and poor road conditions. In the memorandum signed by FRAT general secretary J Moses, the association also called for scientific waste treatment systems, expansion of drainage networks, improved public transport facilities and effective implementation of e-governance initiatives. The organisation stressed the importance of coordinated urban planning in view of the rapid expansion of the city and the growth of major projects such as Technopark and Vizhinjam International Seaport. The residents' body further demanded stronger measures to tackle stray dog menace, better maintenance of public spaces and increased focus on environmental protection. It also sought timely completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and improved coordination among various govt departments.
