CPM will be an ideal opposition in Thiruvananthapuram corporation: V Sivankutty
Thiruvananthapuram: Education minister V Sivankutty on Tuesday said CPM would be an ideal opposition in the city corporation, which it lost to BJP in the recent local body election. Sivankutty said BJP unleashed chaos in the city corporation council in the past five years."We won't do what BJP did in the past five years in the corporation council. We respect the public mandate," Sivankutty said. The minister, who was also a former mayor of the city, said CPM wants new mayor V V Rajesh to bring the stray dog menace issue in the city to the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visits Thiruvananthapuram. "The mayor should give a representation to PM seeking his intervention to end the stray dog menace," he said.

Sivankutty, however, criticised Congress for the rise of BJP in the city corporation. Congress became recruitment agency of RSS. He criticised Kowdiar ward councillor K S Sabarinadhan and K Muraleedharan, MP, for supporting arguments of BJP councillor R Sreelekha in the controversy over her claim for office space occupied by MLA V K Prasanth. Sivankutty said the corporation could verify the documents regarding corporation buildings given on rent and their utilisation. However, they should have a proper understanding of the powers of the corporation and state govt. "Why should one go after issues like corporation building utilisation when there are too many serious issues that demand the attention of city corporation?" he said.
