AAP spokesperson booked for intercourse by deceit

Surat: A 41-year-old AAP spokesperson has been arrested by Laskana police for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman on the pretext of marriage.

The accused, Kalu Vaghasia had been absconding for the past month. Police finally nabbed him in Surat when he allegedly came to meet his family members.

Laskana police inspector Meena Zala told TOI, “We booked Vaghasia under Sections 69, 351(2), 352 and 115(2) of the BNS after a 35-year-old woman filed a complaint. The accused and the victim had met on social media. He allegedly lured her with promises of marriage after divorcing his wife. He took her to different places and established physical relations with her. When the woman later raised the issue of marriage, he allegedly threatened and assaulted her.

“After the case was registered on April 10, the accused went absconding and kept moving across Gujarat. He travelled to Vapi, Vadodara, Salangpur and other places. He was not using his own phone and instead borrowed phones from random persons to contact family members and friends. We are investigating who helped him remain in hiding,” she said

.Based on human intelligence and technical surveillance, police learnt that Vaghasia was in Vapi and was planning to return to Surat to meet his family members. Police kept watch on his movements and nabbed him from the Diamondnagar area before he could reach his residence.

Police said Vaghasia had also allegedly threatened the victim, telling her that she would meet the same fate as city builder Tushar Ghelani. Apart from his political activities, Vaghasia worked as a software developer and was also a partner in a women’s garments firm.
