Light snowfall in HP’s higher reaches
Kullu: Higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh received light snowfall on Saturday even as the prolonged dry spell continued in the mid and low hills of the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, higher reaches of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kullu, and high mountain passes including Rohtang Pass received snowfall.
The fresh snowfall has also resulted in a further dip in the mercury in many parts of the state. As the temperatures are hitting 0 degrees below in most places of Lahaul Spiti, the police have issued an advisory asking the motorists to be careful while driving due to formation of black ice on the roads.
Reportedly, the Udaipur-Tindi-Kilar road was closed due to a landslide at Kadu nala on Saturday.
Tabo in Lahaul Spiti was the coldest place in HP on Saturday with lowest minimum temperature of -9.4 degrees Celsius.
As the temperature is dipping, the administrations of various districts including Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti have also banned trekking at an altitude above 3000 meters and closed many temples including Shikari Devi, Bijli Mahadev and Kamru Nag for this winter season.
The weather department has predicted light snowfall in the higher reaches of the state till December 3.
Meanwhile, the prolonged dry spell continued in the mid and low hills of the state impacting the irrigation water schemes including Una, Kangra and Hamirpur and also affecting the sowing of crops.
