Three Afghans among 4 questioned by Delhi police, state ATS over fake passport
Jamshedpur: Four people, including three Afghan nationals, have been questioned by Delhi police and Jharkhand’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on charges of living here allegedly on a fake passport.Officials from two agencies jointly conducted a raid at a rented house under Golmuri police station limits in the city and in Islammagar in the adjoining Kapali town in Seraikela-Kharsawan district late on Monday. They detained four for questioning, which continued until the early hours of Tuesday, officials said.A senior ATS official said that upon receiving intelligence about the three Afghan nationals in Jamshedpur on a fake passport, Delhi police approached the state ATS for questioning.“We seized the passports of the Afghan nationals and asked them to appear before Delhi police for further questioning,” the ATS official said. The official said that all four, including the foreign nationals, were released following the interrogation.“The violation of the provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025 was the primary charge. The probe is not over,” the ATS officer added. The fourth person, who was picked up for questioning from Kapali, is an Indian resident.
He was rounded up for questioning on charges of complicity with the Afghan nationals in aiding others to travel to Middle East countries on fake passports. “If required, we will call him (Indian national) to Delhi for further questioning,” the official said. The ATS official said that notices were issued to some local people to join the questioning in Delhi as and when they were summoned. Officials refrained from disclosing the identity of the people picked up for interrogation.Notably, the Delhi police received intelligence about the Afghan nationals from a Golmuri resident, Adil Hussaini, when he was caught travelling overseas, allegedly using two passports, at Delhi International Airport in Oct 2025.The agencies suspect that the 3 Afghan nationals are part of a wider network involved in a racket of forging documents to make fake passports to send people overseas, particularly to Middle East nations.
