Dumka: A 15-year-old boy was run over by a train while crossing the railway tracks glued to his phone in Dumka district on Tuesday, police said. The deceased was identified as Prabhu Rai, son of hotel owner Shivpujan Rai, a resident of main market area under Shikaripara police station limits.
According to reports, Prabhu, a Class X student, was on his morning walk and was heading towards the Ambajora-Shikaripara section on the Dumka-Rampurhat railway line. Allegedly engrossed in his phone, he inadvertently walked onto the tracks and failed to notice the approaching train, which mowed him down.
Locals informed the victim’s family, following which his father rushed to the scene. “He used to go for a morning walk every day. I don’t know how he wandered onto the railway tracks while using his phone,” the grieving father said.
On receiving information, railway and Shikaripara police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body.
“A case of unnatural death has been registered. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway,” officer in-charge (OC) of Shikaripara police station, Amit Lakra, said.
