Proposed Medico City in Ranchi to have 12 super-specialty hospitals, says health minister

Ranchi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given its approval for financial assistance of Rs 2,800 crore for the Medico city project, which will be developed near Rinpas in Ranchi, state health department stated on Thursday night. Health minister Irfan Ansari said, “Medico City will house 12 super-speciality hospitals, providing advanced care for heart, kidney, liver, and other critical diseases under one roof.” The project also envisions the establishment of regional medical centres, pharmacy, nursing, and paramedical colleges.The initiative will focus on human resource development, medical and nursing education, district-level modernisation, private sector participation, digital health systems, and outreach to rural and remote areas. With a total cost of Rs 2,800 crore, the project will integrate green building technology, telemedicine facilities, and promote public-private partnership models, aligning with multiple sustainable development goals (SDGs). The tendering process will begin soon to accelerate implementation, the health department stated.In another development, following a meeting of finance and accounts committee, chaired by additional chief secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh, Rims has approved 15 key proposals, some of which include increase stipends for MBBS and BDS students, bringing them at par with AIIMS, New Delhi.The committee also approved the appointment of nine new posts for assistant professors and senior residents, filling several existing vacancies, purchase of a blood mobile transportation van, modernisation of Rims buildings among others.
