Manjhatoli (Gumla): Emphasizing the importance of education for the development of tribal society, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday urged educated individuals in the community help others get benefits of various social welfare schemes by the govt.Addressing the Antar-Rajyiye Jansanskritik Samagam Mahotsav – Kartik Jatra (interstate cultural folk gathering) here, nearly 22 kilometers from the district headquarters, Murmu said the educated tribal people, who live in cities and towns, and do not return to villages, must think what they are doing for the upliftment for their fellow community members. “Our people live in towns. They should visit the villages where they were born and see what facilities the other tribal are getting. They should apprise them of the govt schemes. Only then will they become aware of the benefits. Educated people must help them apply to these govt schemes and get their benefits,” she said. “Though this govt (Centre) is running various schemes for the tribal people, our society has its own role to see that these schemes are reaching out to them,” Murmu said.
In her address, Murmu also mentioned the condition of particularly vulnerable tribal groups and said the Centre is working on a mission to bring various govt schemes to them.Responding to former BJP MLA Shivshankar Oraon’s demand, Murmu said she will support the cause of setting up an Adivasi Shakti Swayatshasi Vishwavidyalaya in the area. “However, the officials of Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh should initiate the required process,” she added.Murmu arrived on a three-day visit to the state on Sunday. On Monday, she attended the convocation of NIT-Jamshedpur, the 22nd Santhali Parsi Maha (language day) and the centenary celebration of Ol Chiki script in Karandih.
