SIMDEGA: A police constable posted at the Mahabuang police station in Simdega district died after his service rifle allegedly discharged accidentally while he was on duty on Sunday, officials said. The deceased was identified as Raju Tirkey, a resident of Tigra village under the Ratu police station area in Ranchi. According to police, the incident took place around 10 am at the police station premises. "The jawan was killed in accidental firing. He was on duty at the Mahabuang police station, where the incident took place around 10 am. Preliminary investigation suggests that the jawan was carrying an INSAS rifle, which went off, and he sustained serious injuries," Shrikant S Khotre said. Police said the injured constable was immediately rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Simdega, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Officials added that a detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the firing incident.
