RANCHI: More than 30,000 students in the state will appear for the entrance examination of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), conducted by Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB), on July 25.
"Forms for the examination will be available between June 25 and July 10 in all post offices. The last day for submission of forms is July 12," said JCECEB's Om Prakash Kumar.
There are 23 government and 172 private ITI colleges in the state and three government and 40 private ITIs in Ranchi. The minimum age for applying for the examination is 14 years and the maximum is 40 years.
ITIs offer different courses, including instrument mechanic, motor mechanic, plumber, electronics, fitter and welder.
"There are 27 courses offered by ITIs but only four - electronics, fitter, diesel mechanic and welder - are in demand and these courses have 24,000 out of the 36,000 available seats. The electrician course alone has around 12,000 seats due to its popularity," said Arun Kumar Singh, treasurer of Jharkhand Private ITI Association. Around 36,000 candidates will write the examination this year.
carpenter, sheet metal worker and much more the most popular courses are electronics, fitter, diesel mechanic and welder.
He added, "The demand of electrician and fitters is the most in market so people choose these two streams the most. Two new trends have been started this year, computer operator and programming assistant and stenographer in Hindi and English and we are expecting students to opt for these courses."
Anwar Ali, who recently passed class 12 and is willing to join ITI said, "I belong to a financially weak family and securing a job immediately is very important for me to support my family. I am planning to join ITI because once I complete my course in two years I can immediately get a job and I can even work somewhere even during my course."
