Ranchi: State higher and technical education minister Sudivya Kumar on Friday said the state govt will work to ensure that the state university campuses remain apolitical and reign of students’ unions remain in the hands of genuine students.Speaking on the concluding day of the two-day vice chancellors’ meet at a city hotel, Kumar said, “The state govt would, however, review the steps taken in the direction of higher education and ensure that our students are not inspired to acquire any political colour. Students should raise their problems, but they should be enrolled in the institutions and not from outside,” he said. The minister expressed concern over Jharkhand’s gross enrolment ratio in higher education, which is below the national average. He said one reason was the state’s dependence for several years on contractual staff, including need-based teachers.Kumar added that if Jharkhand performed below expectation in higher education, the situation is not due to a single person, but everyone, including ministers and chancellors.Higher education secretary Rahul Purwar, said the conference discussed a wide range of subjects related to state universities.
