JAC Intermediate Commerce Topper Sweta Prasad Scores 95.6% Amidst Financial Hardship
Ranchi: Sweta Prasad, 17, who topped the commerce stream by scoring 95.6% in the JAC intermediate examination on Wednesday, said that her result is the outcome of “quiet determination in difficult circumstances”.
Her father, Ajay Prasad, is a seasonal farmer who cultivates wheat and rice, while her mother is a homemaker and takes care of Sweta’s ailing siblings who require regular medical attention. “I always believed I could top. I didn’t say it loudly, but I kept working towards it every day,” Sweta, a student of Yogoda Satsang Intermediate Mahavidyalaya here, said.
She secured 478 marks out of 500, scoring 100 in business mathematics, a subject she considers her strongest ally. She now aims to become a chartered accountant.
“There were times when studies felt secondary because of things at home, but I reminded myself why I started,” she said. She could not afford private coaching and prepared using school guidance and self-study. To prepare for the board exams, the family had to take loans from relatives. “I knew every rupee mattered. That pushed me to give my best,” she said.
Her father expressed pride in her achievement. “We had limited means, but my daughter never complained. She stayed focused. Today, her hard work has given us hope.”
Sweta, the youngest in her family, believes this is just the beginning. “Now, I want to become a CA and support my family,” she said.
Sweta was followed by Krishna Kumar Barnwal of Ranchi who secured 472 marks and Priyanshi Khatri from Chaibasa, who got 471.
