Garhwa: Ashish Kumar Soni was elected the president of Garhwa Nagar Parishad after the counting of votes concluded on Friday. He defeated JMM-backed candidate Santosh Kumar Kesri by a margin of 3,411 votes. Soni bagged 7,201 votes, while Kesri got only 3,790 votes.
Kanchan Jaiswal, for whom former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das campaigned, was defeated. She bagged only 2,582 votes. There were 12 candidates in the fray for the president post, including former president Anita Dutt and vice-president Alakh Nath Pandey.
In Banshidhar Nagar, Sadhna Devi was elected the president of Nagar Panchayat. She got 3,266 votes, while her rival Lata Devi got 2,955 votes.
Similarly, Sumitra Devi was elected the president of Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat.
