Ranchi: The state assembly on Monday approved a budget of Rs 3,919.4 crore for the urban development and housing department through voice vote after a debate as the budget session resumed after break.
Taking part in the debate, urban development minister Sudivya Kumar said urban waste disposal was now a major challenge for the govt. “It is very difficult to get land. Whenever the govt identifies any land for the purpose, the locals oppose the move,” the informed the assembly. Kumar highlighted that mining tourism has begun in the state after an agreement with the Central Coalfields Limited.
BJP MLA Neera Yadav, taking part in the debate, said the people have been struggling for clean drinking water. “Fights over water are common during the summer season. Traffic congestion and waste disposal are also causing inconvenience to local people,” she said.
Earlier, leader of opposition Babulal Marandi sought an inquiry into a reported audio clip of conversation between a senior IAS and an IPS officer over central probe agencies and other issues. Parliamentary affairs minister Radha Krishna Kishore sought a copy of the clip so that it can investigated.
The business advisory committee of the state assembly, which met under speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, agreed to conclude the budget session on Mar 18, a day before its scheduled commencement. The House would meet on Saturday, which was a holiday earlier.
