Ranchi: The court of additional judicial commissioner Arvind Kumar 2 on Friday sentenced a former principal of a private school to three years in jail and imposed fines totalling Rs 35,000 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after finding him guilty of sexual harassment.
The court had on Thursday convicted the former principal under under 354 B (use of force to disrobe her), 354 D (stalking), sections 354 (assault on a woman or criminal use of force with the intention to outrage her modesty), 354 A (sexual harassment) and 509 (use of words and gestures to insult modesty of women) of the IPC. The convict was sentenced to three years each under section 354 B and 354 D and penalised Rs 10,000 each under both the sections. All the sentences would run concurrently. Besides, the court also awarded two and a half years' imprisonment and fines of Rs 5,000 each under sections 354 and 354 A and 509. The court ordered that the fine amount collected from the convict should be given to the victim.
The case was registered against the convict with a local police station on May 24, 2022 by a woman, who worked as a nurse in the school,who alleged that he often called her to his chamber for measuring his blood pressure and indulged in obscene behaviour.
The man was accused on May 29 from Jamshedpur.
