JAMSHEDPUR: Five people, including a couple, were arrested from different parts of Jamshedpur with brown sugar worth Rs 3.50 lakh during an anti-drug crackdown, police said on Monday.
Senior superintendent of police (East Singhbhum) Piyush Pandey said police recovered 175 small packets of brown sugar weighing 26.84 grams in total.
Acting on a tip-off, police first arrested Santosh Singh and his wife Ayesha Khatoon from Gandhinagar Basti under the Burmamines police station limits. Officers seized 124 packets of brown sugar from their possession.
Based on information gathered during interrogation, police later apprehended Gaurav Kumar and Amit Kumar from the Govindpur police station area with 20 and 19 packets of brown sugar respectively.
Another accused, identified as Sanjay Goswami, was arrested from the Mango police station limits with 12 packets of the contraband, SSP Pandey said.
All the accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, police added.
