Ranchi: The Congress party on Tuesday said it will protest at every district headquarter against the Union govt’s bid to repeal MGNREGA and replace it with the new Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB-G Ram G) bill for revamped rural job scheme.
State Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh said, “As part of the nationwide stir, we have directed all district units to hold protest rallies tomorrow.”
Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha accused Union govt of trying to erase father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi's name and values through the fresh move.
"The BJP led NDA govt at the Centre has proposed to introduce a bill to repeal the MGNREGA, which is extremely worrying. MGNREGA is a law born from people's movements. This law gave people in villages the legal right to demand work for 100 days. It empowered women and the landless. Now, removing Mahatma Gandhi's name from this Act is nothing less than a conspiracy,” he said.
