Bokaro Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Girlfriend's Murder and Well Burial
Bokaro: A local court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his girlfriend and dumping her body in a well in 2024.
Additional Sessions Judge-IV cum Special Judge for Women-related offences, Garima Mishra, held accused Uphan Manjhi guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000. According to the special public prosecutor, Rakesh Kumar Rai, the FIR was lodged on Oct 4, 2024 by the victim’s father after she went missing.
He said, “The accused, a resident of Pindrajora police station area, had lured the woman into a relationship. Trouble began when her marriage was arranged elsewhere. In an attempt to derail the wedding, he broke the new about their relationship to her fiancé. But when the latter still didn’t back out from marriage, he called the girl to meet and then killed her following an argument.”
Her body was later recovered from a village well. Rai said, “After examining witness statements and evidence, the court found the accused guilty and awarded him life imprisonment.”
