BJP youth wing protests over scholarships
Ranchi: Jharkhand BJP’s youth wing on Tuesday staged a protest over alleged delay by the state govt in providing scholarships to deserving students.Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Ranchi Mahanagar under the leadership of Romit Narayan Singh organised the rally. “Various students, mostly from the SC, ST and OBC are not getting scholarships for the last two years so we decided to organise a funeral procession,” Singh said.“A total of 1.2 lakh SC-ST students in Ranchi Division are affected, whose fees, hostel and book expenses have stopped due to govt's negligence. Jharkhand govt has betrayed SC-ST-OBC students,” he said.“The education department’s report shows Rs 1,200 crore scholarship funds were received from the Central govt in the past two years, but 40% irregularities occurred in state-level distribution. In Ranchi district alone, over 50,000 students are waiting for scholarships,” he alleged.Reacting to the allegations, Congress spokesperson Rishikesh Singh hit back at BJP’s double standards. “BJP-led govt in the Centre isn’t releasing timely payments to the state as part of its share for scholarship but the saffron camp is showing double standards by doing politics over poor students,” he said.
