Chatra: The decomposed body of a 15-year-old differently abled girl, who had gone missing on December 28 last year, was recovered from a remote hilltop at Gangpur village in Chatra district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Munni Kumari alias Ranu Kumari, police said.
Locals noticed a foul smell and alerted the police. Police teams led by Simaria SDPO Shubham Khandelwal, trainee DSP Wasim Raza, and officer in-charge of the Gidhaur police station Shiva Yadav took the body into custody.
Munni had joined a group of children, who were going to a nearby forest area for picnic, on December 28. But she didn't return.Other children confirmed that she was not with them. She was reported missing by her family at Gidhaur police station. A special investigation team was formed on the directions of SP Sumit Kumar Agarwal.
A reward of Rs 20,000 was announced, which was increased to Rs 50,000 for any information about her. Search operations were conducted, posters were pasted in villages, and drones were used, but the girl could not be traced.
“The body has been sent to the Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the report is received. The crime scene has been sealed and forensic evidence collected. We are examining all possible angles, including the role of any criminal conspiracy,” OC Yadav said.
