Jordan Chiles is no stranger to controversy. Once again, the American gymnast has found herself at the center of debate. This time, the discussion is about her decision to balance elite international gymnastics with college competition. However, Chiles remains confident and calm. Despite the noise around her, Chiles is focused on finishing her college journey on her own terms. Instead, it is a meaningful experience she always dreamed of having. Her recent performances show that she is more than capable of managing both worlds.

Jordan Chiles defends her choice to continue College Gymnastics

Jordan Chiles has made it clear that college gymnastics and competing for Team USA are two separate paths. Speaking to ESPN’s SportsCenter, she said people often misunderstand her decision. Many question why she chose college after achieving so much already. For Chiles, the answer is simple. She always wanted the experience of attending a Division I school. Since gymnastics gave her that opportunity, she felt there was no reason to give it up.
She wanted to enjoy both journeys in her own way.Her confidence has been backed by strong performances. Chiles recently scored a Perfect 10 on the vault during a meet against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. That routine helped UCLA build momentum ahead of the NCAA Championships. Her consistency has played a big role in keeping the Bruins among the top teams this season.Jordan Chiles first committed to UCLA in December 2021 after joining the GOAT Tour with Simone Biles. That year, she won individual titles on the uneven bars and floor exercise, along with a silver medal in the all-around.She then stepped away during the 2023-24 season to focus fully on the Paris Olympics. After a difficult experience and controversy surrounding the floor exercise, many expected her to move on. Instead, Chiles surprised everyone by returning to college gymnastics, using her remaining eligibility. The 2025 season marked a turning point. She helped UCLA win its first Big Ten Conference title and reach the NCAA Final Four for the first time in over five years. Although the Bruins finished second overall, Chiles proved that her decision to balance both stages was far from a mistake.
