GIRIDIH: A violent clash at a coal siding in Jharkhand’s Giridih district left one man dead and six security guards injured, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday night in the command area of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) under Mufassil police station limits. According to Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jeetwahan Oraon, a villager died in the clash and his body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Six security personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation and are currently undergoing treatment at the CCL hospital, Oraon said, adding that an investigation has been initiated.
Ram Sagar, a project manager, alleged that around 100 people, mostly locals, had gathered at the site to steal coal. “When the security guards protested, the coal thieves started hurling stones and attacked them. They fled once the police reached the spot,” he said.
Following the incident, villagers staged a protest at the coal project site, alleging that the security guards were responsible for the man’s death.
