Large quantities of charas, cannabis seized at 3 sites in Saurashtra-Kutch

Rajkot: A packets of charas valued at crores of rupees have been recovered over the past few days in Kutch and Devbhumi Dwarka districts, police said Thursday.Sources said the 176 battalion of the Border Security Force found ten packets of the drug while patrolling the creek area of Kutch on Wednesday.Security agencies intensified searches, given the sensitive nature of the international border that the district shares with Pakistan, officials said.In the last week, over 40 packets of drugs have been recovered from coastal areas of Kutch, they said.In a related development, packets of charas weighing 4kg, estimated to be worth about Rs 2.3 crore, were found along the coast near Kalyanpur in Devbhumi Dwarka district on Wednesday, police said.After the discovery, an FIR was registered at Kalyanpur police station under the NDPS Act, they said.These packets are suspected to have been dumped by smugglers after their boats were intercepted by security agencies.Charas is concentrated cannabis resin traditionally produced by hand-rubbing fresh cannabis plants. It is a form of hashish and is banned in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.BOX108kg of cannabis seized in Rajkot:Rajkot rural special operations group seized a truck carrying 108.3kg of cannabis, worth Rs 5.41 lakh, going from Shivrajpur village to Ghela Somnath village on Wednesday. The persons arrested are Raju Chauhan from Rajpara village in Botad district, Kadar Bapu Sheikh and Naresh alias Hari Limbdiya. According to the police, efforts are underway to locate the individuals responsible for ordering the cannabis. Investigators say people from Kalawad town in Jamnagar district ordered the consignment, which was supplied from Orissa.
