By 2047, Saurashtra’s GDP will reach USD 600 billion: Goyal

Rajkot: The Saurashtra Economic Region (SaER) Master Plan, which projects the region's economy to grow to nearly $600 billion by 2047, was unveiled on Wednesday at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference, positioning Saurashtra as one of Gujarat's key engines of long-term growth. The 30-year roadmap envisions cluster-driven development powered by engineering, medical devices, petrochemicals, ports, logistics and advanced manufacturing.Addressing the gathering, Union minister for commerce and industry Piyush Goyal said taking the Vibrant Gujarat platform to regional centres reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foresight in anticipating future economic needs. He said the move would provide local industries with global exposure while accelerating region-specific development.Explaining the plan's framework, Goyal said cluster-based industrial growth would form its backbone. Rajkot has been identified for engineering and medical device parks, Jamnagar for petrochemicals, while port-linked industries and logistics hubs will be developed along the coastline. By 2047, he said, Saurashtra's GDP is expected to expand 11 to 12 times, making the region a major contributor to the vision of Viksit Bharat.Additional secretary in the ministry of commerce and industry Ajay Bhadoo urged local entrepreneurs to move beyond the role of component suppliers and evolve into system and solution providers. He stressed the importance of integrating engineering, ceramics and energy ecosystem into global value chains.Experts from India and overseas participated in technical sessions on defence manufacturing, aerospace, export strategy and industrial infrastructure. Industry leaders including Vikram Goyal of Mahindra Lifespaces, Yusuf Tambawala of JAFZA and Mohammad Athar of PwC India shared insights on global best practices.Speakers laso highlighted export growth potential in defence, aerospace, engineering and ceramics, underlining the critical role of logistics and port connectivity in unlocking Saurashtra's next phase of industrial expansion.
