BJP wins Jafrabad municipality uncontested

BJP won the Jafrabad municipality in Amreli uncontested as no one from the Congress party filed the nomination papers on Tuesday, the last day to file it. There are 28 seats of seven wards in Jafrabad municipality. Amreli deputy collector V M Prajapati said, “This is first time that a municipality result was declared without election. The state government will give us development fund of Rs 1 crore for this. Other municipalities can learn lesson from us.”

All five assembly seats of Amreli district was won by Congress in the assembly election last year under the leadership of Paresh Dhanani who was later named the leader of the opposition in the state assembly. However, why no Congress candidate filed nomination to contest the elections remains a mystery. Even Dhanani could not be reached for comments.
