Wedding turns trigger-happy, draws political heat & scrutiny in CG
Raipur: It’s no longer just about the wedding shoot — in Raipur, a wedding has gone viral for what many are calling a different kind of “shoot” altogether. Videos circulating on social media show open celebratory firing, with guests posing with weapons and pulling the trigger to the beats of a film song. The clips, widely shared online, are from a wedding function linked to a BJP leader and mandi member Monika Singh’s family. The event, held for her brother Prateek, allegedly saw guests — including women and even a child — brandishing firearms and firing in the air as part of the celebration.Police officials said no formal complaint has been received so far but confirmed that the matter is being examined. “We are aware of the videos and will look into the incident,” an officer said.In one of the viral videos, the couple both appear to fire shots into the air. Other clips show women and young girls holding guns, while another sequence shows a child being encouraged to handle a firearm. The visuals, set to a popular track from the film Dhurandhar, appear choreographed for social media reels, blurring the line between celebration and spectacle. Weapons are displayed as part of the festivities, even as guests cheer and record videos.
Political reactions followed swiftly after the videos surfaced.Congress spokesperson Abhay Narayan questioned the use of licensed weapons, asking whether authorities were monitoring how firearms are being used. “Licences are issued for specific purposes. Their misuse must be investigated across the state,” he said, adding that law and order needs stricter enforcement. On social media, users criticised what they described as a blatant display of power and disregard for safety norms, with some alleging that action against influential individuals often appears softer compared to ordinary citizens.
