Power surge: Kondagaon sub-station upgrade aims to stabilise supply for farmers
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company energised an additional 63 MVA power transformer at the 132 KV sub-station in Masora to assist maize farmers and rural consumers in Kondagaon district. Built at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore, this upgrade aims to provide relief from low-voltage issues to nearly 1.5 lakh consumers and 21,000 farmers in the region.Transmission company Managing Director Rajesh Kumar Shukla stated that infrastructure development in tribal and forest areas is being accelerated. The Masora sub-station previously operated with 2 transformers of 40 MVA capacity each, catering to 8 33 KV feeders. These feeders supply electricity to Kondagaon, Pharasgaon, and Makdi blocks, along with parts of Bade Rajpur block. Other areas, including Keshkal and the remaining parts of Bade Rajpur, receive power from the Kanker sub-station.Distribution Company Chief Engineer (Jagdalpur region) TK Meshram noted that extensive maize cultivation during the Rabi season leads to a surge in power demand for irrigation during summer. This spike often resulted in overloading at the Masora sub-station, causing frequent power cuts and low voltage across the district.Local residents, public representatives, and farmers previously raised these concerns with the district administration. With the new transformer, the total capacity of the Masora sub-station increased significantly. Officials expect this to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for agricultural, domestic, and commercial purposes, ending seasonal electricity shortages.
