Raipur: A decision made in a classroom four years ago propelled 15-year-old Anjali Munda of Odisha to a landmark national feat as she won the first women's gold medal at the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, underway in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Munda topped the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:39.02 to clinch the gold.
While her elder sister competed in archery, Munda opted for swimming and within a year of training, she secured a silver medal at a local meet.
Her sporting journey began in 2022 at a private university in Bhubaneswar, where she received free schooling and coaching.Even after winning gold, Munda was determined to cut her timings. Her personal best was 2:25 mins, and she was aiming to go faster in the events ahead. "I want to improve my time in the next races," she said after her win.
