KKR coach Watson praises team’syoung guns Angrkrish & Vaibhav
Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach and former Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson has praised India’s emerging IPL batting stars Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Vaibhav Suryavanshi for their skill, fearlessness, and quick adaptation to high-pressure T20 cricket.
In a pre-match press conference at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Nava Raipur on Tuesday, Watson highlighted Raghuvanshi’s versatility in handling varied conditions and bowlers, noting his untapped potential for explosive impact. He commended the young KKR batter’s temperament and hard work as a wicketkeeper, calling him a “dream player” with exceptional attitude and skills. Watson predicted Raghuvanshi’s growth into a consistent force once he masters his full arsenal.
For Rajasthan Royals’ teenage batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Watson emphasised his innate confidence against top bowlers, marking it as a hallmark of modern Indian T20 batting. He stressed the need for Suryavanshi to blend aggression with game sense for sustained success, referencing Sanju Samson as an example of IPL’s deep talent pool.
Watson views both players as proof of India’s robust cricket nursery, producing technically sound and mentally tough talents who rapidly apply skills in matches. Mentoring such prospects remains a highlight of his KKR role, fueling the league’s bright future. KKR is set to play their crucial match against the table topper RCB on Wednesday.
On KKR’s late resurgence, Watson attributes the team’s four-game winning streak to settled roles and complete performances, not playoff dreams. After a shaky start post-auction rebuild, KKR has found rhythm through gradual adaptation rather than radical changes.
Cameron Green’s role integration, Finn Allen’s maturing strike rate control, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s technical prowess and keeping skills highlight the resurgence’s youth-driven edge, Watson said.
Spinner Varun Chakravarthy is monitored for discomfort, while Matheesha Pathirana awaits a slot, he said.
