Days after pilgrimage to Tirupati, couple, two kids found dead inside home in Chhattisgarh's Durg
RAIPUR: Just days after returning from a pilgrimage, a family of four in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district was found dead inside their locked home on Friday morning, leaving an entire neighbourhood struggling to understand how a seemingly ordinary household ended in such devastating silence. The bodies of a couple and their two children were found inside their house. Police suspect the parents may have first killed the children before dying by suicide. The tragedy surfaced after family members living in the neighbourhood peeped inside late Friday morning as they saw no movement and alerted police. When cops entered the house, they found the four bodies in different rooms.According to police, Govind Sahu (45) and his wife Chanchal Sahu (40) were found hanging inside separate rooms, while the bodies of their daughter Drishti Sahu (13) and son Yashant Sahu (11) were lying on a bed inside the house.A handwritten suicide note recovered from the spot reportedly mentioned financial distress and family disputes, though police said all angles are still being verified.Neighbours said, “They had just come back from a religious trip. Nobody imagined something like this was happening inside the house and nothing outwardly appeared unusual.” Police sources said the children are suspected to have died after consuming poisonous substances, though the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after postmortem and forensic examination, which police said would be revealed after a probe.
Locals described the family as quiet and reserved. “They mostly kept to themselves. The children were often seen around the colony, but the family was not very socially active,” a resident said.Investigators are now examining mobile phone records, the contents of the suicide note and the family’s recent financial condition to determine what pushed the couple towards the alleged extreme step.
