Chhattisgarh clears urban gas distribution policy, cheaper piped fuel on cards
RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh took a key step towards bringing cheaper and cleaner piped natural gas to urban households, with the state cabinet on Wednesday approving the Chhattisgarh urban gas distribution policy, 2026 — a move expected to offer consumers a cost-effective alternative to LPG while opening up investment in pipeline infrastructure. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhawan, Nava Raipur, on April 29.Officials said the new policy aims to ensure easy availability of clean and affordable natural gas in the state and expand quick supply through pipelines in urban areas. The govt said the initiative would help diversify fuel use, promote clean energy, reduce dependence on conventional fuels and generate large-scale investment and employment opportunities through development of gas distribution infrastructure. The cabinet also approved financial assistance of around Rs 11.98 crore released from the chief minister’s discretionary grant fund to 6,809 individuals and institutions. The assistance, officials said, is aimed at providing quick relief to the needy and extending support in various urgent circumstances.
