Pune: As part of organisational restructuring before the 2029 elections, the state Congress recently appointed 69 new city and district presidents but these appointments have not gone down well within the party. Unhappy with some appointments, a section of the state Congress is planning to visit Delhi next week to meet All India Congress Committee (AICC) functionaries to express their disappointment. These appointments have been made following the party’s ‘Sanghatan Srijan Abhiyan’, where Congress observers visited various districts and based on their reports the new city and district chiefs were shortlisted. Some members of the state Congress have expressed disappointment over selection of some of the members. They claimed that the loyal party workers were ignored in some districts. “There are some eligible party members who have been working at the grassroots for several decades. However, ignoring such members, the party appointed some functionaries who have recently joined the party,” one of the Congress members said. Some members have also taken objection to the functioning of state Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal. A senior Congress member said, “Sapkal is visiting various districts for party work, but chooses to meet only a handful of people who are close to him. He is not keeping in touch with party workers from all sections, which will not help the party to grow. Therefore, some of the party members are planning to visit Delhi to discuss the issues of the state Congress.
