Two DySPs among five chargesheeted in faulty spares case

The state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune on Monday chargesheeted four policemen, including two retired deputy superintendents of police (DySPs), and a private contractor for supplying faulty spare parts to the state motor transport department at Aundh between 2003 and 2005.

PUNE: The state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune on Monday chargesheeted four policemen, including two retired deputy superintendents of police (DySPs), and a private contractor for supplying faulty spare parts to the state motor transport department at Aundh between 2003 and 2005.
According to the chargesheet, retired DySPs Murlidhar Yadav Dalvi and Murar Narayan Jadhav, inspector Narendra Vitthalsingh Chavan of the State Reserve Police Force (Group 1) and assistant sub-inspector Vishwanath Patil did not inspect the faulty spare parts supplied by contractor Girish Laxmanrao Ubale on September 18, 2003.

The policemen were then members of the kit committee of the motor transport department.
The chargesheet was filed before special judge P R Bora by additional superintendent of police Tushar Doshi of the ACB.
The chargesheet says that it was the duty of the committee to inspect the spare parts to ensure that they adhered to the tender specifications. However, the committee accepted defective spares which were used on government vehicles. The loss to the state government was Rs 1.86 lakh.
The policemen also forged the delivery challan and told their superiors that Ubale had replaced the defective parts, the chargesheet states.

Action against the suspects was taken after a case was registered by ACB additional superintendent of police Fatehsinh Gaikwad at the Chatushrungi police station in 2008.
The ACB has chargesheeted the suspects under sections 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 465 and 471 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
The ACB took sanction to prosecute the policemen under section 197 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
