Pune: Pune Rural police to nabbed a criminal on records and his minor accomplice allegedly involved in the brutal murder of a man (62) at Thorandale village in Ambegaon taluka, about 70 km from the city, on March 31 after tracking footage of over 100 CCTV cameras.
The body of the victim, Damodar Minde, was found in the verandah of his house on March 31. His cash, cellphone and gold ring, collectively worth Rs 29,000, were missing. The accused bludgeoned him to death with a blunt object in the early hours. There were also attempted burglaries in the locality around the same time.
A crime branch team led by inspector Pramod Kshirsagar arrested Kabir Kale (24) of Parner in Ahilyanagar district and detained his minor accomplice after checking footage of 100 CCTV cameras. The motorcycle the duo used while driving away from the spot was seized.
The Pune Rural superintendant of police Sandeep Singh Gill said while checking the CCTV footage near the crime scene in Thorandale village, the crime branch personnel spotted two men driving away from the spot on a motorcycle.
"The police checked footage of over 100 CCTV cameras from Thorandale village in Parner in Ahilyanagar. While the police team was at Parner, they got a tip-off about the involvement of Kale in the crime," Gill said.
He said Kale was taken into custody from Punewadi village in Parner with his minor accomplice. Kale has nine cases of murder and robbery against him with the Pune Rural and Ahilyanagar police.
"Our investigations are on," he said.
