PUNE: On the occasion of the 127th foundation day of the Indian National Congress party, city based commuters groups have drawn attention to two promises made by the party in the election manifesto during the Pune municipal elections.
In the civic elections held in February 2012, the city Congress party had made two prominent promises - that of providing free bus service in the main city area, and reducing the bus fares by half for services in suburban areas.

Vivek Velankar and Jugal Rathi of the PMP Pravasi Manch said that they have sent reminder letters to the party about the promises made in the manifesto. The promises may have been forgotten. However, we have given a gentle reminder and have asked that an action plan should be made for fulfillment of the promises'', Rathi said.
The city bus service provided by PMPML is the only public transport facility for over 60 lakh citizens of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and suburban areas. However, it is one of the most expensive public transport service in the country. The city Congress unit too has contributed for making it the most expensive service, the manch said. It is necessary that there should be a positive change in the decision making of the political parties. The manch and several other bus commuters groups have given suggestions to the state government on how public transport service can be improved in Pune.
