PUNE: Power supply to residentialcolonies in Kothrud and Paud road, Pune, slowly limped back to normal by lateWednesday evening, after an interruption that lasted over 50hours.
However, some areas in Karvenagar and Ajanta avenue on Paudroad continued to grope in the dark and residents thronged MSEB''s office on Paudroad, demanding that the power supply be restored.
Tempers ran highas residents of Ajanta avenue prevented MSEB officials from leaving theirpremises till such time as the fault was repaired and powerrestored.
Irate citizens also went to MSEB''s office in Rambaug colonydemanding to know why the power supply was not beingrestored.
Executive engineer of Kothrud division, Vyankat Baswante,told TNN that identifying the fault on the lines was extremely difficult as thecracks in disc insulators on supply lines were not visible to the naked eye.
He said that his staff had been working round-the-clock since Mondayafternoon, when supply to the area had been disrupted following heavy premonsoonshowers.
Residents in Bibvewadi, Indiranagar and parts ofSahakarnagar also had to go without power for over 24 hours when two majorsupply lines in the area developed faults.
Shashikant Chaudhari,executive engineer, Padmavati division, said two disc insulators had to bereplaced and the power supply was restored early in the afternoon. He said powersupply would return to normal by Thursday.
