PMC launches city-wide cleanliness competition
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday announced cleanliness competition "Swacchata Parv Puraskar" for its ward offices, sanitary workers, housing societies, schools and colleges, hotels and other commercial establishments. The administration has said focus of the competition is towards strengthening daily garbage management in the city with visible cleanliness at open places and residential areas. Other aim of the initiative is to maintain cleanliness at community toilets.
The details of the competition were announced at a function held in presence of city mayor Manjusha Nagpure, deputy mayor Parashuram Wadekar along with civic chief Naval Kishore Ram and various representatives of housing societies, commercial establishments. The competition will begin from March 1 until Sep end. Additional municipal commissioner Pavneet Kaur said the civic administration is looking forward to boost citizens' participation in daily waste management. The competition, therefore, has different categories where citizens can participate to improve overall cleanliness. There are nine indicators for scrutiny during the competition.While addressing the gathering, Nagpure suggested the administration should take strict action against banned plastic. She asked stakeholders to improve the processing of wet waste at the source like housing societies and commercial establishments.Leader of the house in PMC, Ganesh Bidkar, said cleanliness is a collective responsibility. "The city is at the top in the education sector, IT and automobile. It should rank first in cleanliness and daily handling of waste. Everyone needs to work together to achieve the top rank," he said.
