Hit-and-run kills mother, daughter in Baramati

Pune: A 25-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter were killed, while her husband and 2-year-old son suffered severe injuries after their motorcycle was hit by a car.The accident happened late on Wednesday night on the Baramati-Parwadi road, about 98km from Pune. The driver left the car at the spot and fled. Locals took the injured to a nearby hospital, where the mother and the daughter were declared dead by the doctors.The Baramati Taluka police identified the deceased as Rupali Mayur Kokane (25) and her daughter, Sanvi (5), both from Parwadi in Baramati taluka. Kokane's husband, Mayur Kokane, and son, Krishna, were shifted to a private hospital in Pune.An officer from the Baramati Taluka police said the accident happened around 9pm on Wednesday, when the Kokane family was heading towards Parwadi on a two-wheeler. "A hatchback car, which was coming from the opposite side, hit their motorcycle," the officer said.He said all four of them fell off the motorcycle and suffered severe injuries. Locals rushed to the spot and took all of them to a nearby hospital. "Rupali and Sanvi were pronounced dead by the doctors. Mayur and his son, Krishna, were later shifted to Pune," he said.The officer said the car driver left the vehicle at the spot and fled. "We seized the vehicle and the search is on for the driver. The police registered a case of accidental death. Our investigations are on," the officer said.
