Pune: The crime branch on Thursday arrested a criminal and his paramour from Lohiyanagar and seized 262g heroin worth Rs 5.24 lakh and Rs 4,500 in cash from them.
The arrested have been identified as Mukesh Suresh Chavan (27) and Arti Vishal Satpute (25) from Inamake Mala, Lohiyanagar. Inspector Fattesinh Patil of the anti-narcotics cell of the Pune crime branch made the arrests.
Patil told TOI that Chavan has cases of murder, attempt to murder, rape, theft and body offences registered against him with the city police. “Police constable Avinash Shinde on Thursday received a tip off that a man and a woman would be coming with heroin at Inamake Mala in Lohiyanagar. “We laid a trap and nabbed the duo,” Patil said.
He said police have recovered 262g heroin worth Rs 5.24 lakh from them. “During sustained interrogation, Chavan revealed that he had brought heroin from Mumbai,” he said., adding that Chavan accepted of selling drugs in the city earlier as well. The investigating team comprised assistant inspector Sheetal Bhalekar, police constables Rama Jadhav, Prafulla Sable, Sunita Andhale and Santosh Pawar.
