17-year-old boy drowns in Chinchwad swimming pool

Pune: A 17-year-old youth drowned in the Vastad Balasaheb Gawade swimming pool at Chinchwad on Friday afternoon. The pool is managed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The Chinchwad police have identified the deceased as Shravan Gaikwad of Rahatani.

Inspector Ranjit Jadhav of the Chinchwad police said the accident happened around 11am, when Shravan had went gone to the pool with friends. He was learning to swim. He drowned during the process. His friends realised it and alerted the lifeguards. “The lifeguards brought him out of the water and took him to a hospital. He was declared dead by the doctors,” the officer said. He said that there were four lifeguards appointed by the contractors. “We have registered a case of accidental death. Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
