PUDUCHERRY: Secretary (local administration) P Jawahar said the protest by sanitary workers against Lt Governor's directive to work on Sundays does not have any merit.
Jawahar said the workers generally work between 7am and 11am and 2pm and 5pm. They are given two half-day holidays (Saturday, and Sunday) and a full-day holiday on Wednesday. However, in the interest of public sanitation both the municipalities have started following a roster system to maintain a skeletal presence of workers on rotational basis every Wednesday.
"in lieu of the work on Sunday a compensatory holiday is given on Wednesdays.
