Woman poisons son, attempts suicide after husband opposes her affair

Patna: A 21-year-old woman allegedly poisoned her three-year-old son and then tried to end her own life after facing family opposition to her extramarital affair in Suja Shanti Nagar under Lakho police station area in Begusarai on Tuesday night. The child, Devraj, died, while the woman, Asha Devi, is undergoing treatment in critical condition. Police said she confessed to the crime.According to police, Asha was in a relationship with Rajaram Kumar, whom she met on social media. Her husband, Gorelal Sah, came to know about the affair and warned her to end it, but she continued, leading to frequent clashes with family members. Asha was married in 2021.In her statement, Asha said, “My husband caught me talking to my lover and beat me up. Later, my in-laws kept scolding me. So I decided to end my husband’s lineage. I first killed my son by giving him poison and then consumed poison myself. When I regained consciousness, I was in the hospital.”Sadar-1 SDPO Anand Kumar Pandey said, “The incident appears linked to her affair. After receiving information, the Dial-112 team rushed to the spot and admitted both to the hospital. Devraj died, while Asha’s treatment is ongoing. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.”
