Sand-laden truck hits DSP’s car after killing biker in Bihta

Patna: Danapur DSP-II, Amarendra Kumar Jha, had a close shave when a sand-laden truck driver attempted to crush his official vehicle in Bihta area of Patna district on Tuesday.

The incident took place at 2pm on Domania railway overbridge in Bihta police station area, when the truck, bearing registration number of Jharkhand, first hit a bike, dragging him under its wheels. The young man, identified as Arvind Singh from Bhojpur district, was killed on the spot despite screaming for help.


Panicked after the accident, the driver sped up in an attempt to flee. During the escape, the truck hit another vehicle before colliding head-on with the DSP’s official car. The DSP was going to Bihta along with his bodyguard at the time of accident. Neither the DSP nor his bodyguard sustained injuries in the collision.

The DSP’s vehicle became entangled with the truck and remained stuck for nearly three hours, causing a massive traffic jam on the busy road. Police and locals, with much effort, freed the vehicle.

Police from multiple stations, including Bihta, responded swiftly upon receiving the information. They apprehended the truck driver, identified as Neeraj Kumar, and the helper, Sudhir Kumar—both residents of Maner police station area. The vehicles were also seized, and the deceased’s body was sent to a govt hospital for the postmortem.

Bihta SHO Amit Kumar said, “The truck was coming from Amhara and going towards Bihta chowk, after loading the sand. It hit a bike rider, who died on the spot. In an attempt to escape, it hit another vehicle and then struck the DSP’s official vehicle. The driver and the helper were arrested and further investigation is underway,” the SHO said.
