Patna: With the aim of keeping the city clean and providing citizen-friendly urban space, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) outlined an extensive roadmap for 2026 to drive further advancements in Patna’s urban infrastructure and liveability.
Following the success of the model vending zone at Kadamkuan this year, which offered permanent spaces to street vendors while eliminating encroachments and easing traffic flow, PMC will replicate this approach by creating organised vending zones throughout the city.
A total of 26 new zones are planned across 4 circles—10 in Patliputra, 4 in Bankipur, 7 in New Capital, and 5 in Kankarbagh. Municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena, along with additional municipal commissioner, circle executive officers, and other officials, conducted inspections to assess location suitability, traffic accessibility, and public convenience, issuing relevant directives accordingly.
“Looking ahead, the ambitious Integrated Solid Waste Management Project will start to turn waste into energy. It includes a 15 MW waste-to-energy plant, a 100 TPD bio-CNG facility, MRF/RDF units, a 700 TPD composting plant, and scientific sanitary landfills. This will help the environment, create jobs, and involve international companies,” Meena said on Wednesday.
The commissioner said, “Roads, footpaths, and drains will get major repairs to stop waterlogging.
More street lights and high-mast lights will be added so that the entire city is brightly lit at night. A survey is going on to decide exactly how many lights are needed.”
“Public toilets, especially pink toilets for women, will be increased in busy areas for better safety and cleanliness. To make the city more beautiful, colourful wall paintings with artistic designs will be painted on public walls and along main roads.”
