Patna: A total ban on organised physical training activities at Gandhi Maidan was announced by the Patna divisional commissioner on Tuesday. The decision, which has been made effective immediately, followed a review meeting where officials mentioned that nearly 15 coaching institutes and private instructors had caused extensive damage to the grounds, leaving the grass destroyed and the surface uneven due to long jumps and sprints.
Parashar asked the Shri Krishna Smarak Vikas Samiti to enforce the prohibition strictly and warned of legal action against instructors who violated the order. To accommodate students preparing for competitive exams, the administration suggested relocating these activities to the Ganga Ghats, including Digha and Collectorate Ghat, citing better air quality and a more suitable environment for physical exercise.

In addition to the training ban, the commissioner ordered the district transport officer to cancel permits of commercial vehicles that failed to stop at designated stands. “This move is aimed at curbing traffic congestion and accidents frequently reported around the Maidan area,” said Parashar.
The building construction department was instructed to repair walking tracks, while the forest department was tasked with planting medicinal and shade-giving trees along the perimeter.
On security and surveillance, 128 high-definition CCTV cameras, including analytic and PTZ models, are now active under the Patna Smart City project. These cameras are monitored via the Integrated Command and Control Centre to ensure public safety. Various departments were also told to maintain the 15 high-mast lights and 56 decorative lights that illuminate the grounds.
