Nitish contrasts pre-2005 rule with NDA era, launches projects worth Rs442 crore in Bhagalpur
Bhagalpur: CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday contrasted the condition of Bihar before 2005 with what he described as the development achieved under the NDA govt since then, while launching and inaugurating a series of projects worth over Rs 442 crore in Bhagalpur district.
Addressing people during his ‘Samriddhi Yatra’ and ‘Jan Samvad’ programme at Baijani under Jagdishpur block, Kumar said the state had witnessed major improvements in governance, law and order and development after 2005.
“In the past, things were left in a terrible situation with extremely poor law-and-order conditions and lawlessness in the state. People were afraid to leave their homes in the evenings. Education, healthcare services, electricity and road conditions were in ruins,” the CM said in an oblique reference to earlier regimes.
He added that the situation changed after the NDA came to power in the state in 2005.
“Whereas when our (NDA) govt took office in the year 2005 we ensured that social and religious harmony prevailed in the state while stopping Hindu-Muslim clashes and other social discords,” he said.
“Our govt since 2005 worked on healthcare services with opening of new medical colleges and hospital in several districts, reforms in educational sectors, constructing networks of roads, bridges and culverts for connecting even remote villages to the cities by pucca roads,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Kumar inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 144 development schemes worth more than Rs 442 crore in the district. These included foundation stones for 56 projects worth Rs 271 crore and inauguration of 88 schemes worth Rs 171 crore.
During the visit, the CM also inspected the integrated development of a large pond at Baijani carried out under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan and laid the foundation stone of a marriage pavilion under the Chief Minister’s Kanya Vivah Mandap scheme.
He reviewed the progress of ongoing development and welfare schemes with district officials and directed them to complete projects within the stipulated timeframe.
Kumar also interacted with beneficiaries and visited stalls showcasing govt welfare initiatives for farmers, women, youths and disadvantaged sections.
Praising PM Narendra Modi, Kumar said the Centre had extended strong support to the state.
“The Centre under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi since 2014 had been and is continuously providing steady support to the NDA government in Bihar till date and would continue to do so for the benefit of the people of Bihar,” he said.
Senior leaders and officials were present during the programme.
