Buxar: Police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly strangling his wife to death in Jokhi village under Mufassil police station limits of Buxar district.
The accused has been identified as Upendra Rajbhar, a tractor and JCB operator. His wife, Kabutari Devi (24), was the daughter of Bhim Rajbhar of Gahmar village in Uttar Pradesh. The couple married in April 2024 and had a three-month-old child.
According to police, on Monday, Kabutari Devi called her family and said she was fine. Later in the evening, her in-laws informed the family that her health had deteriorated and asked them to come immediately. When the family reached Jokhi village, they found Kabutari Devi lying dead in the courtyard, while her infant was crying. Her in-laws had fled by then.
The deceased woman’s brother, Rishu Raj, alleged that Kabutari Devi was strangled to death as the demand for a motorcycle was not fulfilled.
Following the incident, the Mufassil police, led by SHO Shambhu Bhagat, formed a special team. Acting on technical surveillance and local inputs, police conducted raids and arrested Upendra Rajbhar.
The SHO said the accused is being interrogated and the role of other family members is also under investigation. “The husband’s role appears suspicious at first glance. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem and forensic reports come,” he said.
