In a significant operation, Patna police and the Special Task Force managed to incapacitate the infamous criminal, Manager Rai, by shooting him in the leg during a confrontation. Rai, who has an extensive criminal record, including charges of murder and extortion, reportedly threatened former DGP Gupteshwar Pandey's son-in-law for a hefty sum of Rs 11 lakh.
Patna: In an encounter on Friday, Patna STF and police shot at a man, who allegedly demanded extortion money from the son-in-law of former Bihar director general of police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey.The accused, identified as Manager Rai, has over 20 cases filed against him, including murder and extortion, and was shot in the leg during the encounter. He was admitted to the AIIMS-Patna for treatment. The police recovered two cartridges, an empty shell, a cellphone, and a pistol from his possession. Rai was also wanted in connection with the murder of Phulwarisharif-based Dr Mohammad Anwar Alam in 2022.

According to the statement issued by the STF, “We received a tip-off that Rai was planning some criminal activity in the Khagaul Lakh area. Then a joint team of Patna STF and district police cordoned off the area. Upon seeing the police team, Rai started firing. The police team also retaliated, leading to firing on Rai’s leg. He was admitted to the AIIMS-Patna for treatment. He is a contract killer and was absconding in a murder case for the last three years.Former DGP’s son-in-law, Rakesh Ojha, had filed an FIR against Rai at Govindpur police station (Dhanbad) on June 27, 2022.
It was alleged in the FIR that Rai had demanded extortion of Rs11 lakh. At that time, Rai was also in the coal business in Dhanbad.After the case was registered, police arrested Rai. He was sent to jail on July 19, 2022, in the case.Police said Rai was also involved in the killing of Dr Anwar on Aug 17, 2022, in Danapur. The incident occurred while the doctor was going from his clinic located in Tarachak to his home in Bhusaula, Danapur, in Phulwarisharif police station area on a bicycle.
