PATNA: A violent clash broke out between two groups in Mau Bazaar under Vidyapati Nagar police station limits in Samastipur late Friday night, over a shop eviction dispute. Both sides attacked each other with sticks and rods, and several rounds were fired, creating panic in the market. Terrified shopkeepers pulled down shutters and hid inside. Police reached the spot after getting information about the ruckus, following which the situation was brought under control. Three people were injured in the clash and have been admitted to Sadar Hospital. Tension persists between the two groups.Shopkeeper Prabhat Sah said he had taken a shop on rent in the market with a contract valid till March 2027. The landlord later sold the shop to Govind Kumar. “After buying the land, Govind was constantly pressuring me to vacate. I told him I will vacate in March as per my contract. I even asked for 2-3 months’ time, but he was not ready to listen. The dispute happened over this,” Prabhat said.According to eyewitnesses, both sides pelted stones, leading to a stampede-like situation in the market. One side also allegedly fired five to six rounds. Vidhyapati Nagar police reached the spot and controlled the situation. Additional SHO of Vidhyapati Nagar, Aradhana Kumari said an investigation is underway. “We are probing all aspects related to reports of stone pelting and firing. Further legal action will be taken based on findings,” she said.
